Phishing emails such as the one described above are often the cause of a breach in the security of a lawyer’s email, directly or indirectly. This is of course annoying to clients, but may be a prelude to even worse actions. We called, and they insisted we needed to open the document they had attached right away.
In one case, the email included a phony telephone number for the lawyer.
